Lucca Stadium
By virtue of its exceptional location, the Porta Elisa stadium in Lucca was designed to create a new urban center that is closely connected to the city’s fabric. Precisely because of this proximity to the center, the sports facility plays a crucial role in the community and the lives of its residents. As a result, the stadium transforms into a temple of passion, a setting for shared and portable memories and feelings.
The project envisages the relocation of the current playing field close to the grandstand. From an architectural and functional standpoint, the square plays a crucial part. It was intended to be a gathering place for the Lucca community, a “promenade” that offers a special view of the city and the opportunity to use all the services linked to the plant. It is always open, except from the days when events take place. A location where events, outdoor exhibits, markets, the promotion of distinctively local goods, or simply a safe spot to stroll can be held.
The stadium was designed for an initial capacity of approximately 12,000 seats but with the possibility of increasing the number of spectators up to 16,500. There are plans for a guest house where youth sector children will be housed as well as classrooms for educational activities, technical and theoretical gatherings that local schools can also use. The proposal also calls for building a gymnasium and a medical centre with a focus on sports. In addition to serving as the Lucchese region’s reference organizations, the buildings are accessible to all residents. Additionally, there will be stores, a baby parking space for families who want to bring their kids to the stadium, a library, bar and refreshment areas, the Lucchese offices, and individual offices.
